2. Description:
The tester determines the coefficient of friction between footwear outsoles and flooring surfaces under conditions simulating those experienced at the most critical parts of a typical walking step. The method is applicable to all types of footwear, outsole units, heel top pieces(top lifts) and sheet soling materials, also most types of floorings including matting and stair nosings.
3. Test principle:
A footwear outsole and a flooring surface are brought into contact under a predefined force. After a short period of static contact the footwear and flooring surface are moved relative to one another at a constant speed. The force required to move the surface is measured and its value after a defined period divided by the contact force to give the coefficient of friction, under the particular conditions of the test. The test may be carried out dry or with water or other contaminant on the flooring surface.
